The Marx 0 scale tin train set age would be 1930’s, as the last picture shows the one tanker which is listed as 1935, as well as that, the two tankers and the coal car are 5 1/2 which would also put them in the early to mid 1930’s. The caboose is 6 which they started producing in 1935 for themselves. L believe the tankers and coal car were actually Joy Line as they carry no Marx logo and. Louis Marx offered his first trains for sale under the Marx moniker in 1934. What was offered that first year was Joy Line sets consisting of old stock, packaged in Marx boxes. The Joy Line trains were simple lightweight tinplate lithographed short fanciful 4-wheel models (around 5½ long) that operated on’O’ gauge track. Come 1935 the 6 started which carried the Marx logo as does this caboose. As can be seen in the pictures there is one engine and one dummy engine. The engine has flaws, it will run with persuasion. It is missing one set of drive wheels, but will still go down the track once persuaded to move. I just had it apart and did a lube job and found the problem seems to be the motor’s shaft support hole is worn and causes binding when starting most of the time. Between the shadowing and positions of the engines they appear to have bends on them… They do not, just an optical allusion. Please view my other auctions for more train goodies!
