  Lionel 408E Standard Gauge engine 0-4-4-0 Dual Super Motors State set 2tone brwn. Her e’s another listing by. Lone Star Trains and Collectibles. Your Classic Era Train Headquarters! SCROLL DOWN TO THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE LISTING TO SEE EVEN MORE PICTURES! You are looking at a classic electric engine from 1927-36, one of the Lionel icons. This is one of those engines that graces the cover of the price guides or magazines. The #408E Standard Gauge electric engine is DUAL MOTORED. Each truck is motorized. This state brown version would have headed a state passenger set. There are just a few items that reach the state set level of collectibility. For color contrast, see the Mohave passenger cars in our other listings. For your convenience, I have included some pictures at the very bottom of the mojave passenger car side by side with this 408e. There are a few variations of this locomotive. Ornamental nickle “Eagle” shaped springs on base. THIS unit is an. From the prewar era. It has been rewheeled with new reproduction wheels, and it has been rewired at some point in its life. I do not know for sure about the trim parts, but they appear original to me. As noted in condition, it appears to have some repaint–likely to roof, maybe to pilots and definitely to pilot trim and end edges. Tested and runs, reverse. Looks to have been rewired at some point. Wheels are modern replacements. As you can see, there are significant scratches on the paint and number plates, but it looks good. The roof has likely been repainted. The black metal frame wih the eagle-shaped springs is either in great shape or could be reproduction. Pilots have been repainted I think–at least the highlights. I think some of the light housings have a little crazing, but it is hard to see. There may be some paint touch ups here and there on the ends. I think the pilots, pilot trim and end edges are repainted. The number/nameplates show some scratches and wear.   This is a Standard Gauge Lionel Classics Tinplate No. 1-381E Electric State Car Train Set. This train set comes with an electric locomotive and four passenger cars, all in excellent condition. The train runs well on a three-rail system and has directional lights. The train set is ready to go and comes in its original box with original paperwork included. The scale of the train is 1:32 and it is made of tinplate. The train set is suitable for model railroads and trains enthusiasts who appreciate vintage pieces.   WE TRY TO DESCRIBE THE TRAINS AS BEST AS WE CAN BUT WITH 90 YEAR OLD UNITS IT IS HARD TO SPOT EVERYTHING THAT MY HAVE BEEN CHANGED OVER THE YEARS. LIONEL VINTAGE STANDARD GAUGE 402E, 419, 490. PRE OWNED NO BOXES OR INSTRUCTION. THE UNITS ARE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THE ENGINE HAS A 3 POSITION E UNIT AND RUNS GOOD FORWARD AND REVERSE. THE 2 HEADLIGHTS WORK. THE ENGNE IS MISSING ONE SPRING DETAIL ON THE SIDE FRAME, SEE PICTURE. IT HAS ONE PANTOGRAPH, 2 HEADLIGHTS, 2 WHISTLES, ONE BELL. THERE IS A SMALL DENT IN THE ROOF EDGE, SEE PICTURE NOT MAJOR. THE CARS HAVE ALL THE DOORS, THE OBSERVATION PORCH IS INTACT. NO MAJOR PAINT FLAWS JUST THE USUAL EXPECTED BLEMISHES FOR A NEAR 90 PLUS YEAR OLD PIECE MAINLY ON THE ROOF AROUND THE SCREWS. FADED LETTERING ON THE CAR SIDES. THE LIGHTING IS NOT WORKING AND NEEDS TO BE RE WIRED. 6 WHEEL TRUCKS AND ALL THE BEARING COVERS ARE THERE. THE 2 TRUCKS ON THE 419 HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT SOMETIME. THE ORIGINAL RIVETS ARE REPLACED WITH SCREWS AND NUTS. THE CLERSETORY WINDOW COLORED INSERTS ARE THERE. SOME OF THE WINDOW GLASS PLASTIC STRIPS ARE MISSING AND NEED RELACEMENT. WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THIS ISSUE. SIGNATURE REQUIRED WILL BE USED FOR EXPENSIVE ITEMS. ITEMS ARE ROUTINELY WRAPPED IN BUBBLE WRAP AND PROTECTED WITH PEANUTS.
