Lionel Train Set 4109WS Vintage, Locomotive 671R, Tender 4671W 1946 Very Rare
The vintage Electronic Lionel Set is extremely rare. Steam engine 671R and Whistle Tender 4671W are very rare. This Electronic set came with the 671R Steam Turbine Engine, 4442W Whistle Tender, 4452 Gondola, 4454 Baby Ruth Box Car, 5459 Dumping Ore Car, 4457 Illuminated SP Caboose and ECU Controller. The trains have been stored and not set up for over 50 years. The Steam Engine is very valuable 671R and comes with the 4671W Whistle Tender. Not sure if the 671R engine runs or the Transmitter works. This is a collector’s item if you have time to do some extensive restoration on the trains. Most of the trains have corroded over the years. Included are some Lionel manuals that came with the trains. As you can tell from the photos, the train set needs extensive restorations. The Lionel 4109WS Electronic Set Includes. Disclosure: I have written the numbers of the trains to the best of my knowledge. One of the first new post-war trains issued was the 671R 6-8-6- die-cast Steam Turbine Locomotive. A special set #4109WS was created in 1946 with radio receivers installed in each car. The Lionel Set was called the “Electronic Set”. This set featured remote coupling, uncoupling and operation of the cars with ECU Control Transmitter with 10 colored buttons. Vacuum Tubes were used as the receivers to facilitate the uncoupling and operation without the use of a track section. A Special ECU Controller with 10 buttons was required. The receivers in each car responded to a specific button that was pressed. The Tender had two receivers mounted in it; each turned to respond to a different frequency. One, when it received would send a jolt of power to the E-unit to cycle it. The other would activated the Whistle for as long as the button was held down.
