Designed in the late 1970s, the TankTrain system provided a faster, more economical way to load and unload unit trains of tank cars. Strings of these cars were connected via hoses and valves. Rather than unload each car individually, a crew could unload the entire string fromone end of the train. These cars became very popular with petroleum haulers, such as Canadian National. In the tradition of our other new scale-sized rolling stock, these tank cars feature prototypical detailing and paint schemes including accurate, readable stencils. The Lionel TankTrain Tank Cars all feature many separately applied metal details and flexible hoses between the cars.
